ECD Future Students - Nontraditional Credit Options

A variety of nontraditional credit options is available to students who are eligible to apply life or work experience credit.  If you can answer yes to anyone of these questions then you may eligible for nontraditional credit. 

  • Have you been employed for the past three years in an early childhood program with children birth to age 5 that is licensed ODE or ODJFS or certified through another approved agency?

  • Do you hold a current Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA)?

  • Do you hold current certifications required by ODJFS in Red Cross First Aid, Communicable Disease Recognition, Infant and Child CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens Management, and Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Prevention?

  • Have you attended another vocational school, career center, college or university?

Students enrolling in the Associate Degree Early Childhood Development Program may apply for nontraditional credit by contacting the ECD Program Director at 740-366-9359 or via email at rwilliam@cotc.edu.

Nontraditional Credit Options Overview 

  1. Articulation Agreement grants college credit to recent grads of Vocational or Career Center Early Childhood program.  Grads must enroll at COTC within 15 months of graduation from the vocational program.  Graduates must work with their vocational education instructor to complete the required application.  The Licking County Joint Vocational School agreement grants up to nine credits.

  2. Credit Equivalency for Training verifies the student has equivalent training to course goals and objectives.  Students submit the required forms or work for review.  The following credit equivalency options are available.  (Note: Other colleges or universities may not accept credit equivalency transfer credit)

The CDA credential can be converted to six ECD technical elective college credits by completing an approved CDA program and receiving a valid CDA certificate.  The original current certificate is needed at time of the appointment with the ECD Program Director.  (All COTC ECD course can be used for the 120 clock hours needed to complete the CDA)  For more information contact the Council for Early Childhood Professional recognition at 1-800-424-4310 for the closest CDA program.

Six ECD Technical Electives for competed current CDA
